Intervention 1:

In this intervention, Koovathur was chosen to implement the proposed idea, Hybridization Of Sprinkler Irrigation as these villages has active agricultural activities throughout the year. As per the work plan of this project, in year-I (2021-2022), one awareness program has to be conducted in the target villages to make the beneficiaries understand about the idea behind this project and intervention. The pamphlets were issued in the target villages to invite the beneficiaries for the awareness programme by the project Assistant and Field Assistants as the target village is the native place for them. The initial arrangements like gathering the target people, refreshments and lunch were done by the field Assistant, Mrs. Saranya.

The programme was conducted at 11.00 A.M on 25th Feb 2022 at a gram panchayath office of Koovathur village. Around 45 beneficiaries were gathered on that day and they were eager about the programme. The Co- Principal Investigator, Dr. J. Elanchezhian project Associate Mr. Dhianeshwar and Field Assistant Mrs.Saranya were present in the office for conducting the programme. The Co-Principal Investigator (CO-PI), started his speech about the project, intervention, benefits and deliverables. He spoke that, how this village was chosen as the target village and how the village would be benefited from the project. The Project Associate provide the proposed tentative working principle of the irrigation model. The beneficiaries expressed their interest in the project on hearing the benefits and they informed that they would actively participate in the training programme. At the end of the meeting, tea, snacks were distributed and the lunch was arranged for them. The feedback forms were issued and collected to create database of the beneficiaries.

Intervention 2:

In this intervention, we conducted Awareness Programme conducted two places on 20-04-2022 (Wednesday) in Pallayam, Devarajapuram, Cheyyur – 603302 and Pounjur, Devarajapuram, Cheyyur – 603302 Number of People attended the programme in Pallayam, Devarajapuram, Cheyyur are 100 members.

We Illustrated about the usage of applications, Subsidy scheme, Crop insurance, Fertilizers stock and seed stock position, Farm guide and Informed about the training.

Usages Of Applications: The application provides information on the government’s schemes and subsidies, crop insurance, the status of seed and fertilizer stock, market price, the position of reservoirs and the weather forecast.

Subsidy scheme: The Government of India provides various subsidies for agriculture. This helps to the farmers and these schemes you will get to know by our Application.

Crop Insurance: Used to know insurance premium amount and notified crop on your village.

Fertilizer stock and Seed stock position: Helps to know the fertilizer and seed stock position in your area. Agricultural Machinery For Rental Helps you to know about custom hiring centers and rent/hire tractors and implements. Weather Advisory and Reservoir Levels Here, you can know the weather forecast for next 6 days of your place and also for crop based weather advisory can be known. And reservoir levels show all reservoirs of depth, today level (feet), today inflow and today outflow.

Farm Guide: For all crops the days of cultivation and shorts will be known and the pest & disease monitoring to expert advisory for each crop will be known here.

Informed about the training: Explained the detail about the conduction of training program in Anand Institute of Higher Technology for Cheyyur people for the vermicompost.

The beneficiaries expressed their interest in the project on hearing the benefits and they informed that they would actively participate in the training programme. At the end of the meeting, tea, snacks were distributed and the lunch was arranged for them.

Intervention 3:

In this intervention, three villages (Kadapakkam,Thenpakkam and Kottaikadu) were chosen to implement the proposed idea, solar fibre extraction machine as these villages have several coconut farms. The first installment of the sanctioned was released on 30th March 2021.The project was initiated on 1st August 2021.

As per the work plan of this project, in year-I (2021-2022), two awareness programmes should be conducted for this intervention in the target villages to make the beneficiaries understand about the idea behind this project and intervention. The pamphlets were issued in the target villages to invite the beneficiaries for the awareness programme by the project Assistant and Field Assistants as the target village is the native place for them.The initial arrangements like gathering the target people, refreshments and lunch were done by the Project Assistant, Mr.Siva.

The programme was started at 11.00 A.M on 5th March 2022 in a coconut farm of Kadapakkam Village. Around 30 beneficiaries were gathered on that day and they were eager about the programme. The Principal Investigator Dr.P.Suresh Mohan Kumar, Co-Principal Investigator, Dr.V.V.Rajasegharan, Mrs.P.Aruna and Project Assistant Mr.Siva were present in the coconut farm chosen for conducting the programme. The Principal Investigator (PI), Dr.P.Suresh Mohan Kumar had introduced himself and started his speech, about the project, intervention, benefits and deliverables. He spoke that, how this village was chosen as the target village and also he enquired about the livelihood, employment status and wages of the beneficiaries. He also enquired about the coconut farms and how they are making profit in the farm. The beneficiaries informed that the coconut husks are dumped in a place and burnt after separating the coconut. The PI explained that about the profit that can be obtained from the dumped husk. The beneficiaries expressed their interest in the project on hearing the benefits and they informed that they would actively participate in the training programme. The target village is the native place of Co-Principal Investigator Dr.V.V.Rajasegharan and he had introduced himself as he talked about the solar powered fibre extraction machine and how the training programme will be given about the working of machine. Another Co-PI, Mrs.P.Aruna explained the byproducts of the processed husk and about the arts and crafts that can be made from the byproducts. The heads and members of the self-help groups were also present in the gathering.The awareness programme was ended successfully at 1.30 P.M after thanking the beneficiaries. At the end of the meeting, tea, snacks were distributed and the lunch was arranged for them.Also, photos were taken in between and at the end as a proof for the conduction of the programme.The feedback forms were issued and collected to create database of the beneficiaries. With constant support and encouragement of our management and the financial support of DST, the programme was conducted successfully.

Intervention 4 :

Awareness Camp is an integral part of the training program me for the beneficiaries especially women in the target villages. The program me was organized on 14th December 2021 (one day) in target villages from 10:00 am to 03:00pm, with an objective to create a platform for the women to understand and analyze the initiative given by the Department of Science and Technology to improve their livelihood through various projects. A detailed strategic plan to execute the preparation of vermicast, the financial assistance and the marketing plan and the expected outcome along with the help of Self-help groups and by the Non-Governmental Agencies, was also discussed. During this camp, the project assistant and field assistants were encouraged to organize and carry out programs and events for social awakening and development of the people and conduct a survey on socio-economic and educational status of people at the target villages.

The Awareness camp brought out the following outcomes to the women and the people of the target villages:-

  • The women of the three villages got awareness on various themes and fields related to vermicast bricks and composting.
  • The women got motivated from live experiences of various entrepreneurs during the camp.
  • Project assistants and field assistants deputed in the project could learn a lot about socio-economic, cultural, educational life of the students and people at Cheyyur taluk
  • Project assistants and field assistants deputed in the project were able to learn how to interact with the people and collect a data from them as they were provided a golden opportunity to conduct a survey on socio-economic and educational status of people in the target villages.
